Many young people are extremely passionate about gaming. So much so that for some, it can consume their lives. For others, it can lead to other negative effects, including depression and anxiety.
There are other very real risks to online gaming, inlcuding cyber predators, cyber bullying and pre-exposure to adult content. All of this can feel very overwhelming, however, avoiding the risks is not as difficult as you might think.
In order to keep young people safe while gaming online, parents should have a solid understanding of the current trends of gaming (get your kids to help you learn this, it's a great opportunity to bond!), as well as how and why their young people are gaming and use that knowledge to support the child to safely navigate the risks while enjoying the benefits of online gaming.
